Stuck In My Skull 346 -- "42"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, December 14, 2012 | 4:19 AM

Song: "42" || Artist: Coldplay || http://youtu.be/Z0xfWCDLoCU ||

Comments: Yet another late post! I think I'll try and write out a few extra entries over this weekend, so I have a backup plan for when things get crazy. We'll see.

Anyway. This song comes off Coldplay's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends album. It's a lesser-known track from the album, and nowhere near as popular as "Viva la Vida" or "Violet Hill" or even "Strawberry Swing." I like it, though. The beginning starts off at a nice, slow pace, then picks up into a merry tune. It's catchy, and a nice, relaxing listen. Enjoy, and have a good weekend!

Stuck In My Skull 335 -- "Homecoming"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 | 12:00 AM

Song: "Homecoming" || Artist: Kanye West || http://youtu.be/LQ488QrqGE4 ||

Comments: Of all the unexpected combinations of artists, Kanye West and Chris Martin of Coldplay fame. Wow. Didn't see that one coming. Err, came. This song actually came out quite awhile ago, and I'm just behind the times. Regardless of relevance, this song is actually pretty good. It's a sound I'm not used to hearing in rap, and it's hook-- sung by Chris Martin-- is fabulous. Check this song out!

Stuck In My Skull 314-- "The Scientist"

Comments: I sincerely hope that this post is coherent and readable-- it's being written at 3:00 AM. The unquiet mind that lies within the confines of my skull won't shut up, and so I'm still awake at this obscene hour. Right, the song. I sincerely love Coldplay, and have ever since the 7th grade, when a teacher of mine inadvertently sparked a slow-burning fuse that would ignite, years later, into my enjoyment of this British musical sensation. This song is slow, mellow, and comforting, and I had rather hoped it would settle me brain a bit. I'll know once I log off and attempt to sleep again. Oh well. Either way, enjoy the song!

Random note: I really hate the label "Alternative Rock." It doesn't tell you a thing. According to Wikipedia, "The name "alternative rock" essentially serves as an umbrella term for underground music that has emerged in the wake of punk rock since the mid-1980s." How silly. Someone suggest a better name? Say what you will about metal and electronic music, but at least the titles of their subgenres are descriptive.

Entry 207-- "Yellow"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 | 9:50 AM

Song: "Yellow"
Artist: Coldplay
Comments: At the moment, I'm having some computer problems, so I'm writing this from an old netbook. Old enough that the video to this song is too much for the computer to handle in a reasonable amount of time. So, I'm posting this video without having watched it. I feel confident it will be good, however. Coldplay makes good videos, and even better songs. Case in point, this song. It's amazing. Enjoy!

Entry 171-- "Viva la Vida"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Thursday, March 29, 2012 | 5:02 PM

Song: "Viva la Vida"
Artist: Coldplay
http://youtu.be/dvgZkm1xWPE
Comments: In all fairness, this song isn't currently stuck in my head-- that honor belongs to "The Wanderer" by Ensiferum, which I've used already. However, this song was earlier, so it wins the contest to be today's post. Truly, this song is an upbeat ditty that more than speaks for itself. It's an old favourite that I truly enjoy, and I hope you do too.

Entry 119-- "Paradise"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, January 6, 2012 | 2:05 PM

Song: "Paradise"
Artist: Coldplay
http://youtu.be/1G4isv_Fylg
Comments: I saw this song (well, video) for the first time yesterday when I caught it on TV-- the first time I've watched a music channel in forever. (Yes, while it's true that MTV doesn't actually play music, VH1 does in the mornings still.) This song is quite excellent-- typically Coldplay with mellow rhythms and calm beats, topped with sprinkles, whipped cream, and a catchy chorus. While it's not "Viva la Vida" in terms of catchy-ness, it's close. I've had "Para / Para / Paradise" stuck in my head all day.

Entry 96-- "Shiver"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 | 5:01 AM

Song: "Shiver"
Artist: Coldplay
http://youtu.be/LpwW4iraV3Q
Comments: As it's nice and cold this morning, I decided to post Coldplay's "Shiver" for the occasion. Oddly enough, the lyrics (if I remember them correctly) have nothing to do with the temperature. Nevertheless, a nice, upbeat song to start the morning. Enjoy!

Entry 74-- "Spies"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 | 4:29 AM

Song: "Spies"
Artist: Coldplay
http://youtu.be/9QzDHPcNfrw
Comments: This song is one of the slightly more obscure tracks from Coldplay's "Parachutes" album, which completely mystifies me. I suspect if they re-released it now, it'd be a chart topper, but I digress. Enjoy!

Entry 64-- "Cemeteries of London"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Monday, October 3, 2011 | 4:22 AM

Song: "Cemeteries of London"
Artist: Coldplay

Comments: One of my favourite songs off the album "Viva la Vida." This song is a nice, relaxing way to start the week.

Entry 56-- New Spins Week, Part 3: "Clocks"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 | 4:26 AM

New Spins Week, Part 3
Song: "Clocks"
Artist: Royksopp
Spin on: "Clocks" by Coldplay
http://youtu.be/OVPJMMwzIC8 (Spin)
http://youtu.be/vKw7yvoZ-Tg (Original)
Comments: Unlike the first two songs featured in this series, this song is a straight remix-- no sampling, no vocal alterations, just a pure remix of an existing song. I'm a pretty harsh critic of remixes, and finding one that I actually like is generally impossible, but this remix pulls it off with amazing style. Enjoy!

Entry 40-- "Violet Hill"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 | 4:16 AM

Song: "Violet Hill"
Artist: Coldplay
http://youtu.be/IakDItZ7f7Q
Comments: The other smash hit from their album Viva la Vida (the other being the song "Viva la Vida"), "Violet Hill" gets a good deal less media attention and radio play, but is still wildly popular-- for good reason. This song is nothing short of epic.

Entry 19-- "Viva la Vida (Telemitry Remix)"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Monday, August 1, 2011 | 8:12 AM

Song: "Viva la Vida (Telemitry Remix)"
Artist: Coldplay
http://youtu.be/LSNyWGc0gsU
Comments: Remixes of popular songs are a dime a dozen, and usually suck. Let's face it-- a good remix happens infrequently, compared to the sheer number of remixes that spam the internet. So when a really, really good remix comes about, take advantage of it, love it, and spread it just as far as you can folks. Telemitry, I've never heard of you, but you have my compliments-- well done.
